Biography
Berlin, 5 August 1896: Lotte Neumann enters the world and, before long, the flicker of early German cinema. By twenty-one she’s already slipping behind “Hinter verschlossenen Türen,” followed swiftly by the aristocratic intrigues of “Die Töchter des Herrn von Dornberg” and the spectral glow of “Moj.” Between takes she traded scripts for pens, spinning stories as readily as she embodied them. Fifty-eight springs after her screen debut, she drew her final breath in the quiet Bavarian village of Gaißach, 26 February 1977, leaving the projectors of Berlin still whispering her name.
