Biography
Luiza de Oliveira burst onto Brazilian screens in 1913 as Paula Matos, the tormented protagonist of O Crime de Paula Matos, a silent landmark that still echoes through cinema history. Four decades later she re-emerged, trading silent anguish for carnival sparkle, first as the heart of A Carrocinha and then amid the confetti and sequins of Carnaval em Lá Maior—both released in the golden rush of 1955.
