Biography
Liverpool welcomed Malcolm Cherry on 17 May 1878, and by the time the cameras began to turn he had already traded the Mersey docks for the hiss of arc-lamps. Between 1915 and 1919 he slipped into three very different skins: the steadfast shepherd in Far from the Madding Crowd, a battle-scarred dreamer in Hope, and the voice that lifted a Welsh chapel in A Welsh Singer. Off-screen he shared his life with actress Una Venning. On 13 April 1925 the curtain fell for good in London, leaving the city a little quieter and the screen a shade less bright.
