Biography
Carregosa, Aveiro, 1894: a boy named Manuel Pêra first opened his eyes to the Atlantic fog and the scent of pine resin. By the late-1930s that same voice—now velvet, now steel—was pouring out of cinema projectors across Portugal: he asked the country Onde Estás Felicidade? in 1939 and, a decade later, twice stretched comic timing to snapping-point in Pra Lá de Boa and Vendaval Maravilhoso. Off-screen, he shared life and lines with fellow performer Dinorah Marzullo. The final curtain fell in 1967, this time under Brazilian skies.
