Biography
A Halloween baby, Margaret Thompson greeted the world on 26 October 1889 in the mountain-ringed mining town of Trinidad, Colorado. By her mid-twenties she had traded frontier dust for klieg lights, slipping into silent-era frame as the spirited heroine of The Thoroughbred (1916), the same year America went horse-crazy over Man o’ War. Two 1917 releases—Back of the Man and An Even Break—kept her face flickering on nickelodeon screens before marriage to fellow performer E.H. Allen steered her away from the camera’s gaze. Nearly half a century later, on 26 December 1969, she drew her final breath under the palms of Los Angeles, closing the curtain on a life that had galloped from Colorado pines to California sun.
