Biography
Born in Missouri Valley, Iowa—12 February 1886—Margarita Fischer grew up to light the silent screen long before talkies arrived. Between 1910 and 1919 she slipped from Shakespeare’s comic forests (The Merry Wives of Windsor) through the playful chaos of A Midsummer’s Love Tangle and into the dazzling backstage world of Molly of the Follies, acting in, and sometimes scripting, her own pictures. Off-camera she shared her life with fellow filmmaker Harry A. Pollard. After six decades of sunsets spent far from Hollywood’s glare, she died quietly in Encinitas, California on 11 March 1975.
