Biography
Emerging from the artistic cradle of Florence on March 3, 1880, Maria Carmi became a captivating fixture of early twentieth-century cinema. She is best remembered for her evocative roles in silent-era landmarks, including the 1912 production of The Miracle, the intense Teresa Raquin (1915), and the dramatic Der Weg des Todes (1917). Her life off-camera was equally storied, featuring high-profile marriages to Karl Vollmöller and Georges V. Matchabelli. After a journey that took her from the stages of Europe to the American coast, she took her final bow on August 4, 1957, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
