Biography
Born under the Picard sky on 11 September 1902, Maria Fromet first drew breath in Chauny, Aisne. While still a child, she stepped before the camera to embody the anguish and hope of Victor Hugo’s Paris, appearing in the 1912 adaptation of *Les Misérables* and returning the next year for both *Fantine* and *Cosette and Marius*, the concluding chapters of the silent epic. Six decades later, on 11 January 1967, her final curtain fell in the capital whose stories she had once helped bring to life.
