Biography
María Padín slipped into the world in 1888 and onto the screen just as cinema itself was learning to walk. In 1918 she rallied audiences with *Todo por la patria*, then sharpened her gaze behind the camera for *Manuel Rodríguez* (1920) and *Nativa* (1939), guiding stories as deftly as she once delivered them. The curtain finally fell in 1970, leaving behind a trail of light and shadow that still flickers across South American film history.
