Biography
A winter baby delivered to Brooklyn on 7 February 1874, Marie Cahill traded the borough’s streetcar clangor for Broadway spotlights and, later, the flicker of silent-film screens. Between 1915 and 1917 she stepped before the camera to misplace her memory in Judy Forgot, gamble her heart in When Betty Bets, and float through wishful reveries in Gladys' Day Dreams, while also guiding those same pictures from the producer’s chair. Offstage she shared her life with Daniel V. Arthur; the curtain finally rang down on 23 August 1933 in Manhattan, the city that had always claimed her as its own.
