Biography
Marie Newton arrived in 1897, stepping onto a world still lit by gaslight. Within seventeen swift years she had slipped through the silver-sheeted looking-glass of early cinema, haunting the frame in *The Woman in Black* (1914), trading shadows for spotlights in *The Romance of a Poor Young Man* that same year, and shattering marble pedestals in *A Fallen Idol* (1919).
