Biography
Michigan snow fell on 11 December 1887, the day Marie Wayne arrived in the world; by her late twenties she had stepped straight into the emerald glow of The Patchwork Girl of Oz (1914), traded Oz’s glitter for nursery-rhyme charm in Mary’s Lamb (1915), and then waltzed through the bittersweet notes of A Song of Sixpence (1917). Off-screen, she tied her life to Ben Deeley’s, and on 24 May 1949 she took her final bow on a sun-washed Santa Monica shore.
