Biography
Born under the pines of Bethel, Maine, on 16 August 1875, Marshall Stedman traded New England snows for the flickering glow of early California studios. Within a single year—1912—he steered a motorcycle across the silent frame in *A Motorcycle Adventure* and slipped between duty and desire in *Between Love and the Law*. The following year he turned camera and satire on the battle for votes in *The Suffragette*. Off-screen, his leading lady was lifelong partner Myrtle Stedman; together they rode the crest of silent-era innovation until the talkies dimmed. Stedman’s final curtain fell in sun-washed Laguna Beach on 16 December 1943.
