Biography
Martin Alsop’s footprints on celluloid stretch from the first flickers of the feature era to the dawn of modern Russian noir. In 1914 he helped pull off The Great Diamond Robbery, one of early Hollywood’s brisk crime capers; two years later he was tangled in the royal farce of Nearly a King. Nearly a century later his music surfaced again, lending pulse and poignancy to Andrey Zvyagintsev’s Elena (2011), proving that while eras change, an Alsop cue still knows how to speak.
