Biography
Born under the blistering Sacramento sun on 28 July 1859, Mary Navarro traded California’s dust for the glow of klieg lights, bewitching early-cinema audiences as the steadfast heroine of Hearts of Oak (1914), the scheming socialite in The Battle of Ballots (1915), and the conflicted mother of Eve’s Daughter (1918). Off-screen she answered to the married name Mary de Navarro, sharing life with Antonio F. de Navarro. Her final curtain fell far from both coasts—on 29 May 1940 in the rose-scented hush of Court Farm, Broadway, Worcestershire, England.
