Biography
June 28, 1872, Cincinnati’s river air greeted Mary Stewart’s first cry. She grew into a performer whose single, luminous screen appearance came in 1914’s La Belle Russe, a brief flare that still flickers in archive reels. Off-stage, she shared her life with Spencer Houghton Cone, a theatrical agent who brokered dreams for a living. Her own story closed where it began: she died in Cincinnati on November 23, 1916, aged forty-four.
