Biography
On 9 September 1879, Budapest welcomed Matild Gyõry into the world; the city’s lamps and riverfront would later echo her performances on the silver screen. Between the brassy clang of Ágyú és harang and the tender triangle of Akit ketten szeretnek, both shot in 1915, she proved a magnetic presence in early Hungarian cinema. The rollicking comedy Vigyázz a csókra! sealed her reputation in 1922. She remained rooted in her hometown throughout her life, drawing her final breath there on 4 January 1961.
