Biography
Maxine Brown first opened her eyes on 12 April 1897 amid Denver’s mountain-ringed horizons. Before the city’s skyline had climbed higher than the Rockies, she had already stepped in front of cameras, lending her quiet fire to Captain Swift in 1914, braving Through Turbulent Waters the next year, and vanishing into The City of Illusion by 1916. Off-screen, she shared her life—and her name—with two husbands: newspaperman George H. Maines and fellow performer Clarence Willard. Fifty-nine winters after her Colorado dawn, she drew her final breath on 27 December 1956 in Alameda, California, leaving the bright lights of early Hollywood flickering in her wake.
