Biography
May Abbey first drew breath on 3 May 1875 in Hartford, Connecticut, and by 1912 she was already lighting up the silent screen as the resourceful heroine of *What Happened to Mary*. A year later she slipped back into the role for *Who Will Marry Mary?*, keeping audiences guessing about the character’s romantic fate, and in 1914 she traded suspense for charm in *Seraphina's Love Affair*. Off-camera, her own leading men were George Lessey and, later, Herbert Clifton Abbey. She took her final bow on 20 August 1952 in New York City, leaving behind a trio of pioneering films and a legacy etched in the flicker of early cinema.
