Biography
Atlanta, Georgia greeted Myrtle Reeves on a winter day in 1897, and by 1916 she was already casting shadows on the silent-screen—first as the terrorized heroine of The Grip of Evil. Two years later she slipped into satin slippers for A Kentucky Cinderella, and in 1920 she showed audiences how fashion could steal a scene in Beautifully Trimmed. Off-camera, she traded lines and laughs with Oliver Hardy, becoming the first Mrs. Hardy in a marriage that survived the roar of the twenties. Sixty-three years after her southern debut, she took her final bow in Garden Grove, California, leaving behind flickering images and a last breath drawn just three days past her eighty-sixth birthday.
