Biography
Born in Bucharest on 9 May 1890, Nicolae Neamtu-Ottonel stepped straight from the capital’s noisy boulevards into the city’s Academy of Arts, earning his diploma in 1914. That same year he traded the classroom for the flicker of a film set, making his screen debut in Cetatea Neamtului. More than four decades later he resurfaced before cameras, lending quiet authority to Desfasurarea (1955) and, near the end of his life, the wistful distance of Departe de Tipperary (1973).
