Biography
Nils Elffors (1885-1925) established himself as a dedicated unit manager at Svenska Bio's Lidingö studio, contributing significantly to numerous productions, particularly those directed by Mauritz Stiller. Beyond his organizational prowess, Elffors occasionally graced the screen himself, typically in minor acting roles, most notably portraying valets. A man of remarkable courage, he soon became renowned within the company as an exceptional pyrotechnician. His explosive artistry illuminated the silver screen, from orchestrating the dramatic bonfire in "Vem dömer?" (1922) and the thrilling ship explosion in "Eld ombord" (1923), to igniting the formidable castle fire in "Karl XII" (1925). His most celebrated feat, however, remains the colossal Ekeby fire in "Gösta Berlings saga" (1924). Tragically, his illustrious career was cut short in 1925. While preparing a spectacular house explosion for supplementary footage for the international release of "Ödets man" (1924), Nils Elffors perished in the violent blast, a victim of the very cinematic spectacle he so masterfully brought to life.
