Biography
Born beneath the twin spires of fin-de-siècle Vienna on 29 August 1881, Oscar Sabo grew into a sharp-eyed storyteller who earned his living between footlights and film reels. Audiences first chuckled at his comic timing in the 1915 silent farce *Der Barbier von Flimersdorf*; sixteen years later he stepped before microphones for *Er und sein Diener*, proving his wit survived the jump to sound. Even wartime Berlin couldn’t silence him: in 1943 he helped conjure the nostalgic fantasy *Reise in die Vergangenheit*, a cinematic postcard sent from a world at war. Sabo’s final curtain fell in West Berlin on 2 May 1969, closing a career that had spanned empires, republics and two world wars.
