Biography
Born under the gas-lamps of Manhattan on 19 September 1868, Paul Everton swapped the clang of New York City streets for the klieg lights of Hollywood. Between silents and talkies he carved a durable niche: he thundered as small-town big-wigs in The Conquest of Canaan (1921), seethed as a southern politico in They Won't Forget (1937), and played the bumbling butler in the screwball whirlwind Merrily We Live (1938). Four decades of greasepaint later, he drew his final breath on 26 February 1948 at the Motion Picture Country Home, Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, closing the curtain just a few miles—and a world away—from where his story began.
