Biography
Greenville, Ohio, greeted the arrival of Paul Machette on 10 April 1874, and by the time the flicker of silent film began to dance across screens, he had already stepped behind and in front of the camera. Between 1914 and 1916 he guided—and starred in—three now-lost one-reelers: the cross-cultural drama *An Indian Eclipse*, the mining-camp morality tale *Judge Not; or the Woman of Mona Diggings*, and the marital crisis short *Her Husband's Faith*. His career, though brief, helped stitch together the early fabric of American cinema. Machette’s final curtain fell in Joliet, Illinois, on 2 July 1927.
