Biography
A prairie wind carried Pauline Bush into the world on 22 May 1886 in Lincoln, Nebraska, and before that breeze settled she had traded the quiet plains for the flickering frontier of early Hollywood. Between 1912 and 1915 she slipped convincingly into despair, hope, and adventure in The Recognition, Her Escape, and A Mountain Melody, becoming one of the first leading ladies audiences trusted with their tears. Off-screen she shared her life—and a pioneering film career—with director Allan Dwan. After the spotlights dimmed she retreated to the Pacific coast, closing her eyes for the final time on 1 November 1969 in sun-washed San Diego, California.
