Biography
Buffalo, New York, greeted Ralph Stuart’s arrival on 27 May 1890, and the city’s restless energy seemed to flow straight into his veins. By 1914 he was already in front of the camera, squaring off in the espionage short *With Serb and Austrian*, followed by the Parisian whirl of *Midnight at Maxim’s* a year later. In 1917 he stepped into the shoes of the square-jawed hero of *The Mystery of the Double Cross*, a serial that kept nickelodeon crowds guessing week after week. Off-screen, his leading roles continued: first with actress Doris Rich, then with Mary Kingsley Mead—both marriages as headline-worthy as any premiere. Stuart’s final curtain fell on 4 November 1952, in the borough that had long served as both workplace and stage, New York City.
