Biography

Born among the wind-brushed fields of Hulerodgard on 14 June 1871, Rasmus Ottesen traded ploughshares for spotlights and became one of Danish silent cinema’s busiest pioneers. Within a single whirlwind year—1912—he stepped in front of and behind the camera for three now-legendary one-reelers: the high-wire dazzle of *The Flying Circus*, the domestic drama *Bryggerens datter*, and the vertiginous thriller *The Leap to Death*. Six decades after that creative burst, he closed his final scene in Copenhagen on 8 March 1957, leaving behind a compact but incandescent legacy etched in silver nitrate.
