Biography
A midwinter baby in 1885, Ray L. Royce first drew breath amid the river-clatter and brewery-smoke of St. Louis, Missouri. Within three decades he had stepped before the flickering new cameras of the silent era, slipping into the boots of York State Folks (1915) and giving audiences a single, indelible performance. Fate clipped his reel short in 1922, when the last curtain fell on him in Shreveport, Louisiana, far from the Mississippi he once called home.
