Biography
Iowa Falls greeted Raymond Bond on 21 April 1885, and by 1913 he had slipped into the flickering new art of cinema, appearing in the silent milestone Tess of the D'Urbervilles. Thirty-five years later he traded wartime Berlin for Billy Wilder’s satire, lending wry authority to A Foreign Affair (1948), then stared down an interplanetary visitor as the steadfast scientist in The Man from Planet X (1951). The curtain fell on 13 February 1972 in San Bernardino, California, closing a career that spanned the birth of film and the dawn of space-age sci-fi.
