Biography
Raymond Lawrence first drew breath on 8 December 1888 in Bedford Square, the quiet heart of London’s Bloomsbury. Over the next eight decades he slipped into dozens of skins on-screen: the calculating mind at the center of Alibi for Murder (1936), the sun-scorched adventurer in Drums of Tahiti (1953), and, long before sound arrived, the tormented soul of Within Our Gates (1915). Off-camera he shared his life with actress Zillah Tancred, his wife and frequent conspirator in mischief. The final curtain fell on 28 March 1976 in Los Angeles, California, closing a journey that had begun across an ocean and an era.
