Biography
On an April Tuesday in 1870, R.F. Symons drew his first breath on Bermuda’s slim Ireland Island, a naval outpost surrounded by Atlantic blue. Forty-five years later he stepped before the cameras to embody Brigadier Gerard in the 1915 swashbuckler of the same name, a single cinematic credit that still keeps his name alive. Symons’ final curtain fell on 25 January 1949 in Folkestone, Kent, where the chalk cliffs of England met the sea he had crossed decades earlier.
