Biography
Born under the autumn skies of Delaware County, Indiana, on 2 October 1894, Rhea Haines stepped into a world still learning to flicker with moving pictures. By twenty she had slipped in front of the camera, lending her quiet fire to Martin Eden (1914). Three years later she traded frontier dust for studio lights in The Man from Painted Post (1917), and in 1921 she sailed into the melodramatic storms of Uncharted Seas. Off-screen she joined lives with Thomas Case, an attorney more at home with briefs than close-ups. Her final curtain fell on 12 March 1964 in Hollywood, California, closing a life bookended by Midwestern horizons and California sunsets.
