Biography

Between the first flicker of cinema and the dawn of sound, Richard stepped in and out of the spotlight just long enough to leave three shimmering footprints. In 1913 he prowled through Le diamant noir’s underworld, the camera still learning how to catch the glint of danger in an eye. A year later, as Europe marched to war, he resurfaced in Loyalty, trading gun-smoke shadows for questions of conscience. Then, almost a decade on, he resurfaced again beneath the gas-lamps of The Model from Montmartre, a 1926 Paris soaked in paint, perfume and heartbreak, where his silhouette dissolved into the celluloid night.
