Biography
London, 1867: the curtain rose on Richard “Richie” Ling, a city boy who swapped fog for footlights and stepped into the flicker of early cinema. By 1915 he was haunting the margins of The Green Cloak, and three years later he slipped twice more in front of the hand-cranked camera—first in the brisk marital comedy Come on In, then as the slippery title figure of The Impostor. Off-screen, life imitated art: he wooed and wed two leading ladies in succession, Rose Winter and Lotta Faust, each marriage a headline in its own right. The final fade-out came on 5 March 1937 in Manhattan, far from the Thames of his first act, but the celluloid keeps his restless silhouette alive.
