Biography
A Christmas-Eve baby of 1867, Robert Conness first drew breath in La Salle County, Illinois, and spent the next seven decades turning that breath into drama. Between 1915 and 1916 he sprinted through the silent-film boom, slipping from the flower-draped romance of *Gladiola* into the shadow-laden corridors of *The House of the Lost Court*, then met his on-screen doom in *The Martyrdom of Philip Strong*. Off-camera he claimed Helen Strickland as his leading lady for life. The final curtain fell on 15 January 1941 in Portland, Maine, where the footlights dimmed for good.
