Biography
Born in the snow-quiet village of Lansing, New York, on 10 January 1887, Robin H. Townley grew up far from any spotlight yet raced toward it the moment he could. By 1918 he had stepped in front of the camera for *The Candidates*, trading small-town hush for silent-film chatter. Two years later he swapped city sets for saddle leather in *Honeymoon Ranch*, then followed the dust even further *West of the Rio Grande* in 1921—both times guiding the action from the director’s chair as well as the saddle. After the reels stopped spinning, Townley slipped back into upstate anonymity, dying quietly in Rochester in May 1969, his once-famous face remembered now only by the flicker of restored frames.
