Biography
A Gold Country Fourth-of-July baby, Rodney Hickok arrived in Angels Camp, California, on 1 July 1891. Between silents and early talkies he slipped into greasepaint and ink, scripting and starring in three cornerstones of early cinema: the fog-choked thriller *The Mystery of Edwin Drood* (1914), the soulful melodrama *Father Tom* (1921), and the swashbuckling *The Bandolero* (1924). Forty-eight springs later, on 9 March 1942, the curtain rang down for the last time in Los Angeles, the city that had become his stage and his home.
