Biography
Ruth Findlay first drew breath on 19 September 1896 amid the clang and clatter of Jersey City, New Jersey. Before she turned twenty, flicker-light had already caught her: she shimmered through the cursed-diamond mystery of *The Moonstone* (1915), blazed as the fearless title spirit in *The Salamander* (1916), and sealed her silent-era fame with the dark romance of *The Scar* (1919). Off-screen she claimed a quieter leading role, sharing life—and eventually a last name—with Donald W. Lamb. The final curtain fell on 13 July 1949, when she died in New York City, the same metropolis that had once applauded her from theater balconies and cinema orchestra pits alike.
