Biography
Born under the port-city light of Odessa on 26 May 1858, Sarah Adler stepped onto the stage as if the boards themselves had been waiting for her. Decades before talkies, she poured her fire into the silent morality tale *Sins of the Parents* (1914), letting eyes and gesture carry the drama. Offstage, two very different leading men shared her spotlight—first the titan of Yiddish theatre Jacob P. Adler, later the refined Maurice Heine—each marriage a new act in a life rich with curtain calls. On 28 April 1953, the final lights dimmed for her in New York City, but the echo of her voice—tempered by Russian nights and American mornings—still hums wherever stories are told.
