Biography
A wind-whipped September day in 1879 Chicago delivered William “Shorty” Hamilton into the world—five-foot-five of raw energy packed with cowboy grit and silent-screen charm. By 1918 he was galloping across flickering nickelodeons in Denny from Ireland and wrangling laughs in The Snail, his weather-worn face as familiar to fans as a sunset over the back lot. Marriage in 1920 paired him with fellow performer Ethel Spurgint, their off-screen chemistry rivaling any script. Five years later, on 7 March 1925, the lights dimmed for good in Los Angeles, closing the final reel on a man who spent his life proving that the West could fit inside a film canister.
