Biography
Piraeus, 1884: the port city’s salt air greeted a boy named Thanos Zahos, who would grow up to trade sailing ropes for greasepaint. Thirty-one years later he stepped before the camera in Golfo (1915), Greece’s earliest feature film, and etched his face into cinema’s infancy. Athens claimed him again in 1946, closing the curtain on a life that had spanned silent frames, world wars, and the birth of modern Greece.
