Biography
A California sunbeam first lit Thelma Burns’s face on 30 May 1910 in San Diego. Before she turned seven, the cameras had already discovered her: she haunted the moors of “Macbeth,” brought hope to “A Man of Sorrow,” and stitched smiles into 1917’s “Cheerful Givers.” Ninety-three springs later, on 4 March 2004, the same state’s softer light—this time in Woodland—closed her curtain.
