Biography
A freckle-faced kid from Sydney’s salty streets, Thomas A. Curran first tasted greasepaint on 28 May 1879. By the time the world met him, he had already traded Australia’s surf for the flicker of American silent film. Audiences remember the tremor in his eyes in Silas Marner (1916), the hush he cast over Two Sisters (1929), and the way he made shadows speak in The Phantom in the House that same year. Twenty-five years after leaving home, he closed his final scene in Hollywood on 24 January 1941, leaving the camera running just a little longer on the man who carried the Southern Hemisphere in his voice.
