Biography
A Manhattan dawn broke on 1 August 1855 for Thomas Commerford, whose restless spirit would carry him from New York’s clamorous streets to the flickering frontiers of early cinema. Between 1912 and 1915 he stepped before hand-cranked cameras, lending weathered authority to The Hobo’s Rest Cure, shadowy menace to The Ex-Convict, and cunning charm to Frauds. His final curtain fell far from Broadway, in Chicago, on 17 February 1920.
