Biography

On the 28th of August 1879, Bologna greeted the arrival of Umberto Mozzato, a boy who would grow into one of Italy’s early screen chameleons. Behind the camera and in front of it, he shaped stories that flickered across nickelodeon darkness—most memorably the epoch-spanning epic *Cabiria* (1914), the bittersweet *Il povero Piero* (1921), and the social satire *I borghesi di Pontarcy* (1920). Halfway through the 20th century, on 6 November 1947, Turin became the final curtain for the performer who had once set silent frames alight.
