Biography
A Midwestern spring delivered Virginia Fordyce to the world on 5 May 1911, and before she had barely learned to walk she was already stealing light from the camera. In 1914 she stepped in front of the lens for *The Son of Thomas Gray*, followed in rapid succession by two 1915 one-reelers—*The Buzzard’s Shadow* and *The Little Lady Next Door*—each appearance etching her fleeting silhouette deeper into the flickering nickelodeon dark. Off-screen, she claimed the name Neville beside husband John, then slipped from the spotlight as quickly as she had entered it. Eighty-four years after that first Illinois dawn, she drew her final breath on 13 May 1995 in the coastal quiet of Soquel, California, leaving only a handful of frames to prove the world once had a girl who could out-glow the carbon arc.
