Biography
Pittsburgh welcomed Vivian Reed on 17 April 1894, and by 1914 she had traded Pennsylvania’s smokestacks for the flicker of silver-screen fairytales, stepping into the magical patchwork of His Majesty, the Scarecrow of Oz. Barely a year later she headlined two more one-reel wonders—The Journey’s End and The Eternal Feminine—capturing early-cinema audiences before most homes had electricity. Off-screen, she joined creative forces—and wedding vows—with director Alfred E. Green. More than seven decades after her final fade-out, she took a bow for the last time on 19 July 1989 in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, closing the curtain at 95.
