Biography
Vladimir Shaternikov entered the world in 1884 and, before his thirtieth birthday, had already etched himself into the fledgling silver screen. Audiences first noticed him in the 1912 shadow-play *Ukhod velikogo startsa*, then savored his presence among the fragrant petals of *Kak khoroshi, kak svezhi byli rozy* in 1913, and finally watched him navigate the stormy passions of *Anna Karenina* in 1914. That same summer—26 August 1914—the curtains closed for good on the actor whose career had barely unfurled.
