Biography
Born in the harbourside town of Fåborg on 6 November 1868, Volmer Hjorth-Clausen traded the scent of salt and tar for the smell of greasepaint and carbon arc lamps. Within a decade of Danish cinema’s birth he had slipped in front of the camera, gifting the screen three early gems: the affectionate chaos of De kære Nevøer (1914), the circus shimmer of Manegens Børn (1915) and the ominous visions of Spejlets Spaadom (1916). The curtain fell for the last time on 27 October 1927, closing a life that helped sketch the first faint outlines of Danish film history.
